As Hanukkah approaches, and the days are getting colder and darker, it is the perfect time to gather and explore how we meet darkness and light in our lives.
What is our special light? What happens when we find ourselves in the dark?
Where do we find light, and what kind of light do we need?
In this five-session Beit Midrash, we will explore these questions through five different Jewish stories and teachings, mostly from the Talmud and Jewish mystical tradition.
In each session we will read the text, ask questions, and try to understand what the sages are saying. But this is not only a text-study group. The stories are also invitations to talk together about our own lives, our communities, our fears, our hopes, and the different kinds of light we carry. We will experience different practices like meditation, Nigguns (soulful melodies), intuitive writing, creative expression, and more.
