Moral Clarity in an Age of Confusion - Session 2

  • Congregation B'nai Emunah 1719 South Owasso Avenue Tulsa, Oklahoma 74120 USA (map)

As we move from Passover to Yom HaShoah, the second of our four-part in-person reading group, Moral Clarity in an Age of Confusion, takes place on Thurssday, April 17 at noon. Through the writings of political philosopher Hannah Arendt and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, we’ll explore how individuals and communities respond to moral crisis, resist apathy, and uphold conscience in dark times.

Our second session will explore how loneliness and disconnection create fertile ground for extremism and ideological conformity. We’ll read a brief section from The Origins of Totalitarianism in which Hannah Arendt describes loneliness as the precondition for totalitarian rule, and pair it with Rabbi Sacks’s reflections in Morality, Chapter 7: “The Return of Tribalism.” Together, we’ll consider how the breakdown of community, trust, and shared narrative continues to shape our world today.

As this session falls during Passover, a Kosher for Passover lunch will be provided. Printouts will be provided or available by email upon registration.
