The Commandant’s Shadow (2024) is a documentary about the son of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss confronting his father’s role in the Holocaust. The film follows conversations between Höss’s family and Holocaust survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, exploring guilt, memory, and inherited trauma. Through interviews and archival footage, it examines how later generations reckon with one of history’s darkest atrocities. The film is available for viewing on HBOMax.
